Civil Project Engineer Role The Civil Project Engineer will provide
technical leadership to project teams who will be working on
planning, evaluation, design and implementation of civil
engineering projects. The successful candidate will lead the
study-phase and/or design-phase of projects related to the civil,
environmental, construction and industrial fields. The Civil
Project Engineer would regularly interact with employees in and
outside of their department, occasionally have interaction with
clients, occasionally interact with the public (agencies,
government entities, etc.), and rarely participate in selling to
clients. The civil project engineer is expected to manage assigned
project staff and the deliverables of the project, while being an
example of professional presence, representing the Company and the
department in a positive light, and have advanced level of software
knowledge of at least two (2) engineering software packages. Role
Accountabilities Consults with and provides guidance to project
stakeholders and managerial staff regarding engineering
requirements for construction of various designs, and
modifications. Uses design software and drawing tools to accurately
render and communicate designs; plans and designs other necessary
improvements related to the type of project assigned. Sets design
specifications by computing appropriate engineering requirements
(i.e. – water flow rates, traffic demand, earth work balance,
etc.). Plans projects based on the analysis of relevant materials
such as drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, survey reports,
maps, and other geologic and topographical data. Drafts and
presents reports on topics related to projects such as detention
reports and engineering due diligence reports. Performs
calculations for materials, equipment, and labor needed to
determine probable construction cost. Collaborates with architects,
contractors, and other engineers to ensure projects progress
properly. Collaborates with surveyors (or directs and participates
in surveying) to establish installations or reference points,
grades, elevations, and other factors that will affect
construction. Monitors project progress and ensures design
specifications and standards are met. Must be able and willing to
review other project for QA/QC and stamp projects as appropriate.
Must be able to complete assigned projects independently as
assigned with minimal oversight beyond initial handoff. Must
possess ability to teach and explain to others the methodologies
used by The Company. Must demonstrate an advanced level of
understanding of design tools and civil engineering practices. For
site design projects, an advanced level design of projects for
sites. Inclusive of detention design. Must be able to develop,
mentor, train, evaluate, coach/discipline, acknowledge, and thank
assigned staff. Participates in appropriate meetings, association
memberships, and events to establish, develop, and grow networking
contacts. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Education and Experience Civil Engineering Degree
(or related) FE is required. PE preferred Minimum 5 consecutive
years of Civil Engineering experience Public speaking ability,
desired Execute advanced level design projects from start to finish
as the primary designer of the project. Assign Co-Ops, Graduate
Civil Engineers, and Associate Civil Engineers projects/pieces of
projects aligned with their abilities. Proactively implementing
regulatory requirement based on knowledge of state and local
regulations Key Skills/Abilities Advanced understanding of civil
engineering principles, practices, and tools. Proficient in
computer-assisted design (CAD) and other design, data recording,
and analyzation software. Advanced understanding of materials,
methods, and tools involved in the construction or repair of site
and transportation infrastructure improvements. Ability to identify
and solve complex problems. Progressing verbal and written
communication skills. Ability to be both creative and analytical.
Detail-oriented and accurate. Physical Requirements Prolonged
periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Must be able
to lift up to 15 pounds at times. Must be able to travel to various
project sites. Must be able to access and navigate job sites and
