company-wide effort to speed innovation to patients, Lilly Ventures
leverages emerging external innovation to enable Lilly to influence
and better understand the evolving healthcare ecosystem and the
role of hardware and software in the context of Lilly’s prioritized
therapeutic areas. This newly designed role will provide strategic
depth to the company’s external innovation strategy and influence
next generation drug discovery, development, and commercialization.
In addition, it will lead a variety of transaction types and
promote a team culture of Diversity & Inclusion. This position on
the Lilly Ventures Team will: Identify, propose, and execute direct
equity investments in early-stage life sciences and health
technology companies, with pull-through of strategic insights from
portfolio companies Foster external strategic relationships (e.g.,
venture capital funds, corporate venture capital funds, incubators,
health systems, and others) to identify and anticipate
opportunities Drive innovative thinking across business units,
functions, and therapeutic areas on investment decisions that have
a critical impact on external innovation Anticipate the evolution
of the market and competition, especially regarding its impact on
innovation, acquisitions, and collaborations, to gain competitive
advantage Solve unique and complex problems with broad impact on
the business Work within small team dynamics to advance multiple
projects simultaneously Coach and mentor team member(s) while
building a strong team culture of Diversity & Inclusion. Basic
Qualifications Graduate degree (JD, MBA, MD, PhD) preferred, or a
bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 7-10 years of experience in
commercial or business development roles in healthcare, or drug
discovery and development. Recognized as an internal expert for
area of expertise. Additional Skills/Preferences Minimum of 3-5
years experience outside of the biopharmaceutical industry High
level of emotional intelligence with exceptional collaboration with
colleagues at all levels Effective problem solving, analytical, and
project management skills to evaluate and resolve highly complex or
unusual business and organizational problems Exceptional business
acumen, broad learning agility, and market knowledge Demonstrated
negotiation, persuasion, and influence skills Excellent written and
verbal communication skills Business development, investment,

on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic
location. The anticipated wage for this position is $162,000 -
$237,600 Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a
company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual
performance). In addition, Lilly offers a comprehensive benefit
program to eligible employees, including eligibility to participate
in a company-sponsored 401(k); pension; vacation benefits;
eligibility for medical, dental, vision and prescription drug
