Primary Role Recommend, develop and implement programs, plans and activities that enhance the safety and health of Company employees, reduce injury and the potential for injury to Company employees as well as build a safety culture that sustains excellent safety performance. Key Accountabilities Develop, implement and deliver educational training programs and activities that develop and improve the safety process within the company, prevent employee injuries and ensure compliance with federal state and local regulations. (20%) Develop and implement the use of regulatory compliance programs, including investigating new technologies, providing professional review and recommendations for the purchase of tools, materials and equipment that will enhance safety performance throughout the organization. (10%) Lead safety audits and work inspections to identify behaviors, hazards and deficiencies that pose risk of injury to employees or expose the company to loss or failure to comply with regulatory requirements. Identify and recommend specific corrective actions so that work can be completed safely and in compliance with company requirements and safety laws and regulations. Compile, analyze, and interpret data related to safety training and performance to measure the effectiveness of existing programs. (60%) Provide assistance and expertise in injury/accident/claim/near miss investigations ,make recommendations to prevent reoccurrences and communicate findings and corrective actions to other Company locations. (10%) Knowledge / Skills Knowledge of industry and Company Health and Safety, Environmental Compliance and Risk Management Policies and Procedures. Working knowledge of the various functional areas and their role in the organization, including operating procedures of the Company. Working knowledge of federal, state and local health and safety regulations, as well as a working knowledge of the various functional areas of a water utility, so as to develop and implement appropriate risk management activities associated with departmental goals. Demonstrated understanding of a water/wastewater utility operation, knowledge, of and ability to, integrate regulatory requirements into the training and development of all employees. Competencies Functional / Technical Skills Learning on the Fly Organizational Agility Problem Solving Time Management Experience / Education Experience: Minimum 5 years experience in health and safety performance improvement and regulatory compliance in a related industry. Education: Associate level degree required in a health and safety related field Bachelor's level degree preferred. Work Environment Field work, driving, and working outdoors Indoor office environment Travel Requirements Primarily limited to state of Indiana. Some overnight travel may be required. Must be flexible. Other Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to identify, implement and educate employees on ways to complete tasks safely and within compliance.
